Mojo Road Trip 2024 Day 5 June 7, 2024 - Monticello

 

Hello my fabulous followers. Another glorious day with safe travels and enjoyment. I will get to Waldy’s but have other thoughts first.

So today we got up at 630am, and if you know me well, I am not a morning person. Joe calls me grumpy. But today by 7 am, I was dressed, put my face on (my mom’s term for putting on makeup) and had my coffee. I impressed myself! Joe was impressed too. We left at 730am so we could get to Monticello by 9am. It was nice weather and enjoyed a full day there.

Joe and I were really hungry and we ate at Monticello and we had the James Hemmings inspired Mac and cheese. We did not share today. James Hemmings was Jefferson’s enslaved cook who was formally trained in France. Remember in a previous blog, we ate Hemmings snow eggs dessert.

The history of Monticello is amazing with great innovations and creativity. Also, learned Jefferson was in debt at time of his death in the amount of $107,000. There is also history that is hard to hear concerning his enslaved staff. But the stories were good to hear. The Hemmings and the Jeffersons were separate, but related families working the estate, free and enslaved. I recommend reading more about Monticello.

This stairwell picture makes me realize we have to see where we came from in order to climb the top and see where we are now. We can’t change the past, but we can change now to improve the future.

The below picture is the window from the dome room at the top of Monticello.

It dawned on me this circle is the epitome  of love, infinity and perfection. Isn’t this the definition? A community of love, so to speak.

After we left, we eventually went back to Farmville and ate at The Fishin Pig (thanks again David Arrington). It was good and we have leftovers for tomorrow.

We asked the server where could we find ice cream. He suggested a local place called Waldy’s. Lord behold, it is an ice cream food truck.

It is Friday night and families of all ages and ethnicities are running, playing corn hole and standing in a long line for ice cream.

Waldy was born in 2015 with Down Syndrome and autism. In 2018, this food truck started to financially help the family. In 2022 Waldy died but the food truck lives on to help other special needs children in the area.  Did you notice Waldy’s picture? It is a circle! This epiphany hit me standing in line for ice cream. A community of love, unity, infinity and perfection. This circle is represented on a Friday night in Farmville.

As we drove home, another circle presented itself.

God’s love to us. We can agree to disagree, but we can stand together in a circle of love, unity, infinity and perfection, accept each of our unique legacies and treat each other with courtesy and kindness.
